“Life is very short and anxious for those who forget the past, neglect the present, and fear the future.” So wrote the Stoic philosopher Seneca, considered a progenitor of humanism. As he steps into retirement, Hugh Taft-Morales urges us to embrace all three concepts which, together, comprise the arc along which every individual life—and all mankind—must travel. How can we best remember what has been? Dynamically attend to what is? Bravely face what may be? (This is Hugh’s very last platform as Leader of the Philadelphia Ethical Society.)
