About the event

In 1988, James Rahn moved from New York to Philly with a fresh-minted MFA in writing fiction and $50,000 in student loans. With no more lucrative career options on tap, he created a writing workshop: one that helped participants find the emotional heart of their work and offered criticism with kindness. Since then, more than 2,000 people have passed through the Rittenhouse Writers’ Group, which found its home at the Philadelphia Ethical Society 38 years ago. Rahn will share stories with our leader Philip Lindsay about the colorful history of RWG, and suggest how audience members can master their own struggles with the blank page.
