About the event

Did you know that the word democracy originally referred to government by lottery? Just after TED Democracy, join Terry Bouricius, author of Democracy without Politicians, and Shamichael Hallman author of Meet Me at The Library, for a discussion on the history and practice of democracy, public space and finding ways to bridge the deep divides in our country.

Terry Bouricius is a theorist of democracy reform and former legislator from the US state of Vermont. He is a major proponent of using lottery-selected popular assemblies to overcome the structural flaws of electoral democracy.

Terry’s new book “Democracy Without Politicians: Government By the People” is available for free download at democracywithoutpoliticians.org.
