About the event
All of us know Martin Luther King's "I have a dream speech" but almost none of us know about the key organizer who made it happen- Bayard Rustin. What was his broad vision for the transformation of the American economy through a "Freedom Budget for all Americans"? The authors of this book suggest that we can learn something from Rustin’s ambitious, jobs-centric approach as an alternative to the “maximalist sloganeering and alienating tactics” that repeatedly have produced electoral defeat on the left. “A true Left for the 21st century will overcome the self-imposed limitations of the last 50 years and reground itself again in working-class organization and aspiration,” they write.
Join a weekly reflection group w/ author Paul Prescod at The Philadelphia Ethical Society, to discuss the new collection of short essays, two at a time.
