Classic Books in Troubled Times Book Club: Kindred, by Octavia Butler
Octavia Butler, the mother of Afrofuturism, relates the story of Dana James, a Black woman living in 1979. Against her will, Dana is repeatedly yanked out of her life and propelled through time to antebellum Maryland. There, she must rescue her white, slave-owning ancestor, while herself experiencing the horrors of slavery. This group discusses classic literature focused on people struggling through challenging times. We meet on the first Monday of every month. Space is very limited.
