From the increasingly disturbing videos coming out of Minnesota, to the massive budget cuts to local social services and non-profits, to the Internet blackout in Iran, we are entering a year that will test our capacity to maintain a our steadiness. At the Ethical Society and our Camp Linden we have a wonderful opportunity to serve as a consistent, grounded space for building community amidst the chaos. In my opinion, the biggest ethical question facing the country this year is whether the American people can respond to the emerging 170 billion dollar deportation industrial complex in a productive, non-violent way. To do so we will need third spaces like ours that provide consistent places for people to come together, think critically, take care of each other, and plug into local solidarity efforts.
